Changes to Storage Policies for Unlicensed OneDrive Accounts Effective 27 January, 2025
What is an Unlicensed OneDrive Account?
An unlicensed OneDrive account is created when a user’s license is removed, or the user is deleted from your organization, but their OneDrive storage is not cleared.
The storage changes:
Starting 27 January 2025, storage costs will apply to unlicensed OneDrive accounts.
Example from Microsoft
“If an organization has 100 unlicensed OneDrive accounts, each consuming 1 TB, the total usage equals 100 TB.
Reactivation and Storage Costs:
Reactivation Fee: $0.60/GB for 1 TB, totalling $614.40 per account.
Monthly Storage Fee: $0.05/GB for 100 TB, amounting to $5,120/month starting October 2025.
Organizations must evaluate whether to archive, reactivate, or delete these accounts based on storage needs and costs.”
